United in Talks with Patrick Viera!
United assistant manager Dale Brooks recently visited France to look at some possible signings. While there he watched Cannes, which is Viera’s old club, and talked with Patrick Viera who has given his recommendation to one of the players Dale was watching. The club are looking at several French players and hope to announce some exciting signings for next season.
Walker and Easter Sign
Two players who featured well in the end of season recovery have signed for a further year. Jermaine Easter signed from second division Hartlepool after a good showing during his loan period. Justin Walker extended his contract for another year, he was left out of the team earlier in the season after falling out with the previous manager John Taylor but came back with the new management and reclaimed his place in the team.
Season Ticket Discount Deadline
Don’t forget that the early purchase discount for season tickets ends on June 12th. Before that time under 10’s pay just £25 for a season ticket and under 16’s just £50. Season tickets for adults start at £135 for OAP’s and students and start at £210 for a standard price adult ticket.

Mid Table Finish For U’s
After a nail biting few weeks The U’s finished in a comfortable, mid table, thirteenth position. The six points from the last two games made the difference between finishing mid table and finishing third from bottom.
O’s 0 - U’s 1
The last game of the season was the so called M11 derby against Leyton Orient. A good crowd from Cambridge travelled to Leyton and saw a good performance by the team, especially seventeen year old goalkeeper John Ruddy who saved a penalty in his league debut. Many fans feel that Saturday’s game was the last time we will see Luke Gutteridge in an amber shirt, both Charlton and West Ham have shown interest in signing the young midfielder.
Next At The Abbey
Although the season is now over the next few weeks will resolve some important issues for the club. Decisions over the future of manager Claude Le Roy and several of the players will be made in the next week. Claude has been reported to be taking on the management of the Congo national side, following his success with Cameroon and Senegal. The pitch is also going through changes, during the close season it will be shortened to its previous size and moved nearer the new south stand to be ready for the new development. The planning application for the new stand should be going before Cambridge planners in June.

Almost Safe
A 2-2 draw away at Oxford earned United a valuable point in their fight against relegation from the league. The team needs just one point from their remaining two games and even if they don’t achieve this Carlilse United need to with both their remaining matches by more than three clear goals. While Carlisle’s situation looks nearly impossible, their form over the second half of the season has been amazing. With just 11 points from the first half of the season, they have performed the second half of the season with play-off form. Carlisle’s remaining hurdle will be the last game of the season away to likely champions Doncaster Rovers.
Haverhill Defender in Team of the Week
Haverhill resident Stev Angus was named in the Division 3 Team of the Week. The U’s defender was chosen by the panel for his performance in the 0-0 draw at home to Kidderminster. Ex-U Alex Russell also featured in the team.

United’s last home game of the season is on Saturday against a struggling Scunthorpe United side. The Iron are one of the few teams below The U’s and are desperate for another point which would secure their league position.
