Another Home Loss
On Saturday The U’s suffered another defeat at home, their fourth of the season. A single Lincoln City goal, which came from a defensive blunder by United, was enough to win the game. The match was much the same as usual for United, some good play, an ability to hit the post, but no ability to score. The bright spots came from new signing Richard Hodgson in midfield and a good defensive performance by the young Dan Gleeson.
FA Cup
United have been drawn away in the first round of the FA cup. On November 13th the team travel to the winners of the Halifax or Leek Town tie.
CFU is Trust of the Year
The supporter’s trust Cambridge Fans United has been voted trust of the year at the annual supporters trust conference held in London. The trust impressed the judges by its excellent work in a year when it saved the club financially and achieved a place for an elected fan as a club director.
Next At The Abbey
Cambridge are at Rochdale this Saturday and away in the FA cup the following week. The team return to The Abbey on November 20th to face Rushden and Diamonds.

Gloom Descends On The Abbey
After an unbeaten run of three games United yet again crashed to a defeat at home. On a rare Friday night game at The Abbey, in front of a crowd of 4,000, Northampton Town’s single goal was enough to beat a Cambridge team who are finding goals difficult to score. U’s fans can only look enviously at the performance of former United star Dave Kitson, now at Reading, who has scored seven times this season.
Luke Guttridge Update
United’s most valuable player Luke Guttridge is not expected to return to the team for some time. Luke has been out since August with a serious viral infection and club chairman Gary Harwood has said that he is still some way from recovery.
Become a Steward
The club are looking for matchday safety stewards. The pay is £6.41 per hour for four hours each match. Full training will be given. For further information phone Ian Darler on 01223 729215.
Next At The Abbey
The team are away at Cheltenham on Saturday. Cheltenham are struggling just above Cambridge in the table and a win may be necessary to keep United from being bottom of the league for the first time in their history. The U’s return to The Abbey the following Saturday against Lincoln.

U’s 1 Bristol Rovers 0
High flying Bristol Rovers came to The Abbey expecting to pick up points against a Cambridge team with a poor run of results. But United were desperate for a home win and once they went ahead they defended well and held on for the win. Justin Walker, playing with a broken cheekbone sustained in last week’s game, deservedly won the Man of the Match award. Dan Chillingworth and John Turner started as strikers and worked together to produce the single goal of the game.
Injury News
Shane Tudor is waiting for the results of an MRI scan on his back and thigh, Igor Latte-Yedo has just returned to training, Dennis Oli’s ankle injury has recovered but he was out on Saturday due to illness and Luke Gutteridge has returned to light training with the team after suffering a serious viral infection. Strikers Jermaine Easter and Danny Webb were both off with injuries on Saturday but are expected to return soon.
Friday Night At The Abbey
United play at home on Friday night this week. The visitors are a Northampton Town side lying just above Cambridge in the league table. This game could see the return of former United players Tom Youngs, Fred Murray and the never popular Scott McGleish. Kick off is at 19.45.

Kidderminster 1 United 1
In last week’s Abbey Days we described the game against Grimsby as the worst United performance of the season, we should have added “so far”. On Saturday Cambridge were just seconds from being placed bottom of the league for the first time in their history when a Kingsley Mbome goal rescued a point against bottom of the table Kidderminster Harriers. Kidderminster are a struggling team and yet United’s Man of the Match was goalkeeper John Ruddy who performed two excellent saves to keep The U’s in the match.
LDV Trophy
Better news for United in the LDV Trophy. A Jermaine Easter goal gave Cambridge a 1 – 0 away win at Boston. The team are now through to a local derby at home to Leyton Orient. Earlier this season United drew 1 –1 in the league against Orient, so there is a chance of progressing further in this competition. The LDV matches will be played in the week commencing November 1st, so at Cambridge this will probably be a Tuesday night. Details to follow.
Next At The Abbey
On Saturday United are at home to Bristol Rovers, but remember that this match is a 1pm kick off to allow fans to watch the Cambridge match and then watch England on TV.
