U’s 3 (Three) Rushden and Diamonds 1

After a five match losing run and only having scored more than 1 goal in a match once this season, Cambridge excelled themselves with a hat-trick from John Turner winning the three points against a struggling Rushden side. Rushden played in a similar manner to Cambridge and had the same fault, they can make chances but not take them. Have United found the answer to their goal scoring problems in the eighteen year old John Turner? See the answer in future Abbey Days.

Ground Sale

The much discussed protest against the sale of The Abbey, planned for Saturday’s game, failed to materialise. While there are real concerns about the future of the club many fans seem to feel that the board have the best interests of the club at heart. The plan is to sell the ground to one of the directors with a lease back of fifty years with an option for another fifty years. Fans trust CFU are working on an alternative plan before the board’s EGM.

Next At The Abbey
The team are away at Notts County next Saturday, County have a good ground with some pleasant pubs close by and it is not a bad drive for an away trip. United return to The Abbey on Tuesday 7th December against visitors Scunthorpe.

U’s Out of Cup

United’s season goes from bad to worse as they were dumped out of the FA Cup first round 3-1 on Saturday to Conference side Halifax. To rub salt in the wounds, our non-league neighbours Cambridge City and Histon are both through to the second round. Shane Tudor scored Cambridge’s goal, and there was a surprise recall for out of favour Stuart Bimson.

Director Offers to Buy Abbey

If the news on the pitch wasn’t enough to depress U’s fans, CUFC director John Howard has offered to help United’s financial woes and buy the Abbey Stadium for around two million pounds, with a view to leasing it back to the U’s. However the proposal is being viewed with suspicion amongst fans, and fans group CFU are likely to oppose the sale, and are looking for a better solution. Whatever happens the club have a large loan to pay off in December and are continuing to lose around £10,000 per week.

Next At The Abbey

United take on Rushden & Diamonds at the Abbey on Saturday, the games against Rushden & Diamonds are usually exciting local derbies, and this could be the game to turn Cambridge’s season around.
