With no game last Saturday we will take the opportunity to give an update on the financial situation of the club. After coming out of administration the club has cut back it’s outgoings but is still losing £250,000 a year. The rent for the ground is £200,000 per year. The club has enough money to make it to the end of the season, but that is when the cash flow problem starts. This year there are likely to be payments of around £125,000 made from the Dave Kitson transfer deal, as Reading are well placed for promotion. This still leads to a need to cut costs or increase income. The main new income generator planned is to hold a concert at the stadium at the end of the season. At the same time the board is proposing to buy back the stadium and will possibly use it to finance a move to a new ground.

This has all been slightly complicated by the situation at Cambridge City, who are in an even worse financial situation and will soon be without a ground. City have suggested a merger with United but it is difficult to see much advantage for United as very few City fans would be expected to switch allegiance.
